Juba, Sudan

Juba is more expensive than NYC! its a wierd kind of economy. 1 dollar gets you 2 sudanese pounds (whereas it gets you 65KSHS). I dont know what that exchange rate is based on becuase the currency is not pegged on anything. The average cost of a meal is about 20US$ (i.e about 40sudanese pounds), a beer is about 3.50$. And i understand accomodation- a 3 bedroomed house can run you 4,000USD. I think that's NYC prices if not greater. Im not sure how people make it here, because i cant afford Juba.

Its a town full of motorcycles and 4wheeldrives (there are no roads to speak of- well 1 tarmacked road- which also has a round-a-about- i dont know why we still insist on these. they are a traffic nightmare. but, as of yet there is no traffic in Juba. There are little huts all over- like right next to the road, or in between office buildings (e.g the kenyan embassy seems smack in the middle of someone's homestead. Its quite interesting, i must say.
